Since 2014, CSRM has been providing community relations training and capacity building services to the Papua New Guinea Mineral Resource Authority’s (MRA) Development Coordination Division (DCD).  The purpose of this three year program, which managed by Dr Paul Rogers, is to provide DCD staff with leading practice community relations knowledge and skills that will enable them to carry out their regulatory roles in ensuring that mineral developments comply with the laws of PNG, and that the benefits are distributed transparently and fairly to all stakeholders, including local communities.

Over the course of the program CSRM has delivered a range of short workshops and bespoke training courses to DCD staff in PNG and also taught and supported DCD staff enrolled in SMI’s Graduate Certificate in Responsible Resource Development program.

A milestone was achieved last December when the first 2 DCD staff members, John Ipidari and Carter Oiee graduated from the Responsible Resource Development program, a great achievement for staff who must juggle challenging work demands and their studies, with many spending time in what are often remote and difficult sites in PNG. CSRM eagerly awaits the graduation of the remaining DCD staff later in the year.
