Guideline points the way to better management of social impacts in mining communities

The NSW Departnment of Planning and Environment today released for public comment a Draft guidelines forSocial Impact Assessment of  State significant mining, petroleum production and extractive industry development. The  University of Queensland’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, assisted with development of the guideline. It participated in the Departnment's series of engagement forums in  mining and resource communities across NSW and with mining and extractive industry representatives. It also provided an advice document on best practice SIA processes. The public consultation period will run until March 2017.
