IBN Irtiya: A History of the IBN Group
In line with the remit of community support, this report provides a history of the development of the IBN Agreement and Trust to record this history and inform members, providing an opportunity to reflect on IBN’s story. As one of the earliest trusts to be established in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the IBN Group is closely embedded within the communities in which it serves, and it has a complex history. In 2026, IBN will celebrate 25 years of supporting the Yinhawangka, Banyjima and Nyiyaparli (IBN) people who form part of the IBN Group. Preparing this report was a highly engaged activity, including not only desktop research, but importantly interviews with people who were involved in the original negotiations and who have helped shape the Trust over its life. This report is Part 1 of 3 reports (parts) from CSRM that IBN sought external and independent expertise to research and prepare.
