This research aims to achieve a sustainable approach to exploration targeting in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia by combining technical mining exploration data and community aspects utilising GIS. This research project is collaboration between Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (University of Queensland) and Centre for Exploration Targeting (University of Western Australia). South East Sulawesi Province (Bombana Regency) will be used as the case study.
In this collaboration, CSRM researchers will also focus on a rapid analysis of spatial data governance in South East Sulawesi as well as Indonesia. Strengths and limitations of spatial data governance will be investigated from various institutions that are involved in the Indonesia spatial data management specific to exploration targeting and other related social and ecological factors.
Project Aims
- To conduct a rapid assessment of spatial data management and governance related to exploration targeting (CSRM)
- To build GIS database of geo-scientific, infrastructure, community and environmental data for release via the IM4DC server (UWA and CSRM)
- Produce a series of meaningful ‘sustainable mineral potential maps’ (UWA)
Project Partners
- Centre for Exploration Targeting (university of Western Australia)
- Australian Aid through the Action Research Grant of the International Mining for Development Centre
