This project examined the factors that influence corporate decision-making with regards to workforce accommodation options.  The project informed company decisions about the suitability of various workforce accommodation options under a range of conditions. The project will: provide valuable insights to corporate and government decision makers about the often unintended barriers they may be raising from particular accommodation choices and potential incentives they could employ to achieve preferred accommodation arrangements.

Project Aims

  • Assembling a profile of the workforce accommodation options utilised by Rio Tinto across its Australian operations (including residential, drive-in drive-out (DIDO) and fly-in fly-out (FIFO) operations)
  • Identifying the factors that lead managers to choose between residential and non-residential workforce accommodation options for their employees.
