Theme: Cumulative Impacts
CSRM was asked to assist Isaac Regional Council to establish a multi-stakeholder reference group to respond to the cumulative local amenity issues arising from multiple mining, petroleum, agriculture, land development and industrial minerals activities around the town of Moranbah in the Bowen Basin. The Moranbah Cumulative Impacts Group includes representation of key state government, coal industry (e.g. BMA, Anglo & Vale), local government, union, community, and other industry representatives. The group was established based on collective agreement that more could be done to improve the management of cumulative environmental and socio-economic impacts on the town; in particular, dust generation. CSRM facilitated initial establishment of the group and subsequently undertook a year long process to improve decision making and governance of the group, define a program of work, and improve working relationships across the stakeholder groups.
