This International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) funded project aims to assist ICMM member companies and other stakeholders by providing an overview of methodologies for strengthening the analysis of human and social development outcomes of company investments. The project explores and reviews a range of social evaluation frameworks available to measure the impacts and outcomes of programs on the quality of life of communities and considers the extent to which such frameworks may be used to measure the human and social development outcomes and contributions of mining projects and their associated investments.
Project Aims
- To help ICMM members more fully understand the methods available to measure human and social development impacts and to provide guidance for companies on how to measure the effectiveness of their investments.
- Identify and review a range of existing indicators, framework and methods used by a representative range of private companies, development assistance organisations and non-government organisations (NGOs)
- Consider the extent to which such framework provide effective measures of impacts or outcomes
- Consider the potential applicability of the frameworks to be used to measure the effectiveness of mining activities and associated investments and their impact on the quality of life of communities.
