Sharon Flyn

Sharon Flynn is a senior leader in social performance with expertise in creating shared social, economic and environmental value for business and society. She has experience in the extractive, construction, manufacturing, forestry and non-profit sectors in North America, Latin America, Asia and Africa. Sharon has led teams working in community, government and stakeholder engagement, land acquisition, integrated social and environmental management, and business development. She is experienced in social investment, social auditing, sustainability reporting, responsible marketing and community-based enterprise development. Most recently, Sharon led the social team for Rio Tinto‚Äôs La Granja Project in Peru. In addition, she has worked with Newmont Mining, Bechtel, GrupoNueva, Conservation International and The Nature Conservancy. Sharon is currently a Rio Tinto sponsored Industry Fellow with the Centre for Social Responsibility and Mining at the University of Queensland.   Sharon holds a Master of International Management from the University of California, San Diego and a Bachelor of Language Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She speaks fluent English and Spanish and is formerly proficient in French and Mandarin Chinese.
